Long before humanity entered galactic society, it had sought ways to overcome it’s limitations and provide respite for those whose bodies had suffered trauma or defect. Whether genetic engineering, cybernetic replacement, or medical augmentation, humanity possesses fewer prejudices and taboos toward such. Human cyberware and retroviral genetic engineering processes are always one step lower in Rarity, and 2/3rds the monetary cost.
In addition, humans can accept 1 point more of cybernetic or genetic modification than their Brawn or Willpower would normally allow.
Humans, from the planet Earth, are the newest sentient species of notable size to enter the galactic stage and are the most rapidly expanding and developing. They independently discovered a Prothean data cache on Mars in 2148, and the mass relay networks shortly thereafter.
They introducted themselves to the rest of the galaxy in 2157 via a conflict with the turians while exploring the mass relays, sparking what they call the First Contact War, which was settled upon intervention by the rest of the Citadel Council three months later. Within a matter of decades they have risen to their current position, having a Spectre and holding a fourth seat in the Council, granted for their bravery during an attack on the Citadel in 2183 by a rogue Spectre.
“When you want a problem shot, ask a turian. When you want a problem talked to death, ask an asari. When you want a new problem, ask a salarian. When you want a problem solved, ask a human.” – Commander Shepard, Systems Alliance Navy and humanity’s first Spectre
